The short version
- You must be 16 or older to use Path of Prose.
- Your words stay yours. We only store them, sync them and show them to the readers you choose.
- It's free while it's invite-only, for a limited number of users.
- You can download everything, any time, and delete your account. Deletion waits 21 days unless you choose Delete now.
- If we ever close, you get at least 90 days' notice and at least 21 days to download everything.
- Use it fairly: follow the acceptable use policy.
- These terms are governed by Utah law.
Who we are
Path of Prose is run by ARNIK LLC, 5477 N Saddle Stone Dr, Eagle Mountain, UT 84005, United States ("we", "us"). You can reach us at arnikllc+pathofprose@gmail.com.
By using Path of Prose you agree to these terms, our privacy policy and our acceptable use policy.
Who can use it
You must be 16 or older to use Path of Prose. Accounts are by invitation, and by asking for one or using it you tell us you are 16 or older.
You are responsible for your account. Keep access to your email address safe, because that is how you sign in, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
Your writing
You keep full copyright in everything you write. We claim no rights to it.
You give us permission to store, copy and transmit your writing only as needed to run the service for you: to keep it on our servers, sync it between your devices, back it up, make the exports you ask for, and show it to the readers you share a link with. That permission ends when your writing is deleted, except for copies in backups until they expire (see Deleting your account).
The app never writes, rewrites or suggests text for you. You are responsible for what you write and share, and for having the right to use anything you put in the app, such as pictures.
AI-assisted support and development
We use Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic, to help us answer support requests and to build and fix the app. It may see a support request you send us, the diagnostics attached to it if you included them, and the records of your account only when a fault can't be fixed without them. Development and tests use local test data, not writers' books. We use Anthropic's current Claude plan with training turned off, and we have no data processing agreement with Anthropic. If you'd rather AI tools didn't see your request, say so in it, and we'll try to respect this when working on your support request. The privacy policy has the details.
Price
Path of Prose is free while it's invite-only, for a limited number of users. If we start selling subscriptions, beta users stay free, though this may change if server and business costs require it.
Keeping your work safe
The app keeps your books on your device and on our servers, and shows you both versions if two devices disagree. Still, no service is perfect: keep your own copies of work that matters to you. Download everything in Settings, Your data, gives you a full backup at any time.
Deleting your account
Settings, Your data, Delete account purges your account and everything in it 21 days after you ask (see The waiting period below). During those 21 days nothing is purged and your account is read-only; signing in lets you keep it. Nothing is purged before then unless you choose Delete now, which purges at once, or the service closes.
Some things deletion can't reach at once, or at all:
- The waiting period. Your account waits 21 days before it is purged, and you can keep it by signing in. The purge runs in our nightly cleanup, so it starts within a day after the 21 days end.
- Backups. Our database keeps a rolling backup for 35 days, so your records leave the backups within 35 days of the purge. Pictures and server copies of exports aren't in those backups; they go with the purge.
- Server logs are deleted after 14 days. They record the kind of error, never your text.
- Emails. Copies of emails we sent or received, such as a support reply or your invitation, are kept in our email account.
- A deletion marker. For about a day after the purge we keep a record that the account was deleted, with its id and none of your words, so a device still signed in can't bring your books back.
- Exports you downloaded stay with you; we can't delete them.
- Records the law requires us to keep (for example billing records, if subscriptions are ever sold), kept only as long as required.
- Anything you already shared. The purge ends your reader links, but what readers already read or copied, and copies you sent elsewhere, stay with those who received them.
If Path of Prose closes
If we ever close the service, we promise:
- at least 90 days' notice, in the app and by email;
- at least 21 days of read-only access before the end, in which Download everything and every export keep working;
- exports free while the service is running;
- Delete account keeps working while the service is read-only, with the caveats above;
- deletion of every account's data after the final date.
We promise nothing about access or exports after the service has been shut down, or if ARNIK LLC becomes insolvent. That is why the notice and the read-only weeks matter: download everything while you can.
Suspending or ending an account
You can stop using Path of Prose at any time and delete your account.
We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms or the acceptable use policy, or that puts the service or other people at risk. Unless the law or safety stops us, we will try to tell you first and give you a chance to download your work.
The service as it is
Path of Prose is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises beyond the ones written in these terms, including that the service will always be available or free of faults.
To the extent the law allows, ARNIK LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $100. Nothing in these terms limits a right you have under the law where you live that can't be limited.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change, we change the Updated date at the top of the page. If you keep using Path of Prose after a change, the new terms apply.
Law and courts
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts in Utah County, Utah, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it elsewhere.
