The short version

  • Amazon Web Services hosts the app, your books and your sign-in, in the United States.
  • Google runs the mailbox that receives email you send us.
  • Anthropic makes Claude, the AI assistant we use to help answer support requests and to build the app.
  • Your browser's notification service delivers reminders, only if you turn them on, and the reminders hold none of your text.
  • An online voice's maker receives the text being read aloud, only if you choose an online voice and agree to the warning.
  • Nobody else. The app loads no third-party scripts, fonts or analytics.

Path of Prose is run by ARNIK LLC. A subprocessor is a company that handles personal information for us to provide the service. Our privacy policy says what we keep and why.

Amazon Web Services

  • What it does: hosts the app's pages, its server, its database and files, and its sign-in service, and sends the invitation email.
  • What it holds: your account, your books and settings, and the short-lived safety records our privacy policy describes.
  • Where: the United States.

Google

  • What it does: runs the mailbox that receives email you send us.
  • What it holds: the email you send us, and our replies.
  • Where: the United States and other countries where Google runs its mail service.

Anthropic

We use Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic, to help us answer support requests and to build and fix the app.

  • What it may see: a support request you send us, the diagnostics attached to it if you included them, and the records of your account only when a fault can't be fixed without them.
  • Development and tests use local test data, not writers' books.
  • Its terms: we use Anthropic's current Claude plan with training on our conversations turned off. Anthropic doesn't use those conversations for training, and keeps them for 30 days, longer only if one is flagged for breaking Anthropic's usage policy.
  • No data processing agreement: we have not signed one with Anthropic.
  • Where: the United States.

If you'd rather AI tools didn't see your request, say so in it, and we'll try to respect this when working on your support request.

The app itself never writes, rewrites or suggests text for you, and never sends your writing to Anthropic or any AI service.

Browser notification services

If you turn on reminders, your browser gives us an address for its own notification service, run by the browser's maker (for example Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft). We send reminders through it.

  • What it sees: the reminder itself, which holds no text from your books.
  • Where: wherever the browser's maker runs that service.

Online voices for read-aloud

Read-aloud uses your browser's voices. Most run on your device. If you choose an online voice, your browser sends the text being read to the company that makes the voice, and that company sends back the sound. The app sends nothing itself.

  • Who: the company named beside the voice and in the warning: Google, Microsoft or Amazon. A voice whose maker the app can't tell is shown as from the voice's provider.
  • What it sees: the sentences being read aloud, while the online voice speaks.
  • When: only after the app warns you that the text will leave your device, and you choose Use the online voice. The default is Use an on-device voice.
  • Where and its terms: that company's own, not ours.
