Accessibility

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That means, among other things, that you can:

• use every part of the app with a keyboard alone;
• use it with a screen reader, with labels on buttons and fields;
• read text with enough contrast, in both the light and dark themes;
• zoom the page or use a phone's large text without losing content;
• choose reduced motion in your device settings and have the app respect it.

• Automated checks run in our test suite on the site's pages and the app's screens, at a phone's and a desktop's width, and a problem they find fails the tests.
• By hand, we check pages with the keyboard and on real phone screen sizes.

Automated tools find only some problems, so we also rely on what you tell us.

We haven't yet had an independent accessibility audit. These are the gaps we know about:

• Screen readers. After moving between some pages, the page has no title for a moment.
• Small screens. On some narrow Android phones, the button that hides the keyboard is partly cut off. In Firefox on a narrow window, a button's name may not appear when you point at it.

We review open accessibility issues and fix them on a monthly schedule, and we update this list as we do.
